How to join

We are always delighted to welcome new members, whether you are an experienced choral singer or just like to sing. Our weekly rehearsals, on Mondays from 7.45 to 9.45 pm at Kenn Road Methodist Church BS21 6LH, are led by our Musical Director and accompanied on the piano, when we learn the pieces that form the repertoire for our Christmas and Spring Concerts. We have two main terms – September to December, and January to May with a shorter Summer term from late May to early July.

Some ability to read music is beneficial, although we do have some members who manage without. Members are expected to practise between rehearsals, and ‘teachtracks’ and recordings of the music can usually be found online. Our Musical Director also teaches singing technique and vocal exercises during rehearsal warm-ups to improve the overall sound of the choir.

We are a four-part mixed choir with Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses. Don’t worry if you are not sure what your vocal range is – it will become quite apparent in rehearsals, or you can speak to our Musical Director. We have both male and female tenors. We sing traditional and contemporary choral music, accompanied and unaccompanied. We usually engage professional soloists for our concerts.

Members currently pay a fee of £80 per main term, which covers the costs of venue hire, music hire or printing, and paying for the Musical Director and Accompanist, but £40 for the Summer term.
